Leading Friends of the Earth's work on nature (aka the natural environment, biodiversity and ecosystems). I designed and lead The Bee Cause, the campaign to reverse the decline of Britain's bees which persuaded the UK Government to draw up a national Bee and Pollinator Strategy.

I led a team of 9 staff based in and across England's 9 regions to: coordinate campaigns; support voluntary action and community activity; and shape and influence policy on everything from air pollution, transport and aviation to local economies, energy, waste and land use planning.

I started Friends of the Earth's work on (unsustainable) aviation and airport growth, led the campaign on the expansion of Heathrow with a 5th terminal and worked with others to raise awareness of aviation's tax free privileged status.

I coordinated voluntary activity across the capital, planed and coordinated campaigns and devised policy. For example, I designed and led the influential 'Hello Mayor!' campaign which put 'the environment' on the agenda of candidates of the 1st London Mayoral and assembly elections. I led the campaign to save London's prime wildlife haven at Rainham Marsh from being turned into a drive-through restaurant, petrol and service station and budget hotel.

The LSDC advises the Mayor of London on sustainable development and how London can become a beacon sustainable world city e.g. in my LSDC role, I advised on how a bid to host the London 2012 Olympics + Paralympics could incorporate sustainability. On winning the bid I continued to advise including on the sustainable legacy.

Link brings voluntary organisations in the UK together to protect and enhance wildlife and landscape and to further the quiet enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside. As Link chair I drew up its first 5 year strategy, changed the role and focus of the Director role and recruited and supported new staff to take Link's work forward.
