Designed and built core backend infrastructure for indexing tens of thousands of securities in real-time. This included setting up a Cassandra cluster, designing an indexing system backed by Redis, and writing RESTful APIs in Scala for retrieving time series data. The system regularly handled up to 10,000 writes per second and 2,000 reads per second.

I was the co-founder at this startup. I was responsible for a wide range of things including writing the web application, pitching to anyone that would listen, building a cutting edge recommendation system, and integrating with e-commerce APIs.After three releases and testing out with over 20 customers we found that the idea wasn't really viable. The company pivoted to become http://movableink.com. I helped develop a prototype, but ultimately had to move on for financial reasons.

Helped build architecture and algorithms for pulling in millions of web pages, articles, and images. Worked with EC2, RabbitMQ, Solr, Sinatra, Ruby, Scala, Rails, and C. Wrote machine learning algorithms to classify and rank content and sources.

Worked as a web developer using Ruby on Rails, javascript, AJAX, MySQL, Linux, Mongrel, nginx, and memcached. Primary responsibilities included producing back end code, model design, and javascript for clients including the BBC and Channel 4 in the U.K. In addition to client work I re-architected Mint’s web application platform named Bloombox. Bloombox was created to enable the development team to deliver rich, custom social media web applications in short time frames for Mint’s clients.

Consulting on and off over this period. Primary work was on two seperate projects:The first was over the summer of 2006 where I helped develop a Ruby on Rails based CMS for the New York Jets website. I aided in the design (models, relationships, etc.), and programming on the project with a group of four other team members.The second was during the fall of 2007 where I helped write the back end Ruby on Rails code for the new Flavorpill.com web site.

Over the course of the summer I worked with three other interns, my lead, and project managers to deliver a successful project to internal users. This included back end code designed to run on Google’s clusters analyzing gigabytes of data distributed across nearly two thousand servers.

This included tasks like documenting requirements, designing the system, and writing code.Developeed web services for remotely managing Foundstone's FS850 Network Scanning Appliance (Foundstone is a division of McAfee).

Consultant at Air Force Space Command. Gathered and wrote requirements through user interviews. Designed and wrote web applications in C#.NET and Sharepoint 2003.This company was bought by EMC in 2006.

Worked as the manager of software development in this small startup. Duties included creating the development process, programming, planning software release schedules, gathering and writing requirements, and working with team to design the product. The product was first a thick client and then a web application to aid customers with compliance audits and security assessments.After the company folded, I was the technical lead for companies looking to buy the intellectual property. The IP was sold to Foundstone, then bought by McAfee. During Foundstone's technical due dillegence I assisted their team with assessing the software.

Developed materials and strategy for Windows 2000 migrations performed by all consultants. Project Lead for migrations from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000. Managed and administered 100 site network using Cisco routing equipment and protocols. Consulted on projects migrating email users from POP3 to Exchange 2000.

As a Volt Services contractor I worked on the Microsoft campus as a software tester on Windows 2000 development. I developed test plans for Windows 2000 migrations and was responsible for testing of Windows 2000 migration tools. As part of the dogfooding effort, I assisted in testing a 30,000 user production domain migration from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 Active Directory. Developed test scripts in VBScript and DOS Batch files to automate the daily load of a test environment on 45 servers.
