As Director, Industrial Design – Americas, I work directly with the Vice President of Design to advanceCrown’s Design organization into new realms. The Crown design team is in the midst of transitioning from a focus on physical product development to designing comprehensive thoughtful experiences. This new focus includes physical and digital products, highly advanced automation and communication technologies, user on-boarding, training, and more. Through my leadership and influence, I have helped advance the design team, their development processes, and outputs through this transformation.The journey of change has been highly constrained and quite complex for the development organization. Crown is a highly vertically integrated company with a very successful history of developing and producing trucks profitably.During my 6 year tenure, my teams have developed and brought several innovative and award-winningproducts, solutions, and experiences to market. I have also facilitated tools and practices to advance and accelerate the growth of the organization’s capabilities in this fast-changing climate.

As Director, Strategic Design & Brand Integrity, I interacted directly with Diebold’s senior executives, heads of marketing, product management, engineering, and manufacturing. I led a team charged with the development of new products, existing products, development of the company’s innovation strategy, and further defined all elements of the corporate brand. Over the course of 18 years, I significantly increasing the visibility, relevance, innovations, and contribution of the design function to the company. During my time at Diebold, the company grew nearly 5 times its size, from $600 million to over $3 billion by 2013. My experience at Diebold provided me with a broad range of experiences. Diebold's principal industry is financial self-service (ATMs and related devices, software and service). The second largest industry was the Security division, including physical, electronic and logical security solutions for the financial, commercial, retail and government sectors. We also supported peripheral industries, including health care self-service systems and elections systems. Through the introduction of user research and testing, we developed financial service end-user experiences that were measurably easier to use, significantly reduced user error, and provided the industry’s best user experience.Recognized for my ability to produce desirable outcomes, in 2005 I was asked to take over the Industry Communications function, in addition to my design leadership. Industry Communications covered all public relations, advertising and marketing communications for our financial self-service, security and e-voting businesses in 93 countries. In the 3 years I led Industry Communications, I brought the same level of performance and relevance as I accomplished with the design group. During that time, I increased the effectiveness and relevance of the group. I measurably increased performance, reduced cost, while winning awards, and increasing effectiveness.

Coon Design Associates was my first design position out of school. Dennis Coon hired me in as his first design employee.He allowed me to get involved in all aspects of the business, from conceptualization to final build, as well as in communication and business development.Working with Dennis was a fantastic and educational experience that prepared me very well for the next steps in my career.
