Structural AnalystSsl (Space Systems Loral) Jan 2014 - Jul 2017Palo Alto, Ca, UsI was a lead engineer and a senior technical resource supporting the antenna department. During my time our team worked through the development and end-item test of 30+ deployable antenna reflectors for multiple commercial communication satellite customer missions (EUTELSAT 65WA, JCSAT-15/16, Star One-D1, BRIsat, MELCO QZSS, Intelsat-36, Intelsat-38, EcoStar-23, EUTELSAT E7c, Telkom 4, Telstar 18/19V, etc.)Most recently I was the lead analyst for the KaRIn central metering structure; a precision thermally/hygroscopically stable composite assembly for JPL as part of the primary instrument for the SWOT spacecraft for NASA/CNES. I gave the analysis presentations for this hardware to the JPL technical review board at the SWOT Primary Structure PDR and CDR. -

(COI).I was test engineer for the first article static test of JPLs Low Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) Core Structure Assembly (5 meter diameter re-entry vehicle primary structure)Responibilities Included:Test fixture design, analysis, and manufactureStatic test planning with project teamAuthored test procedure and test rediness review packageOral presentation for JPL Technical Review BoardStatic test execution (50k lb load levels) -
Structural AnalystNorthrop Grumman 2004 - 2014Falls Church, Va, UsFormerly Orbital ATK/ATK Space Systems/Composite Optics, Inc. (COI).Over 10 years I had the opportunity to learn the skills required for structural analysis and test of distortion critical lightweight composite structures for space based optical and RF systems, including optical benches, mirror support structures, reflectors, and radomes. I greatly benefitted from working under some of the best composite material analysts in the industry.Skills include static, modal, acoustic, sine/random vibration, and thermal distortion analysis using classical and finite element methodologies (NASTRAN/FEMAP/Hypermesh). Bonded joint analysis via Volkersen/Hart-Smith closed-from equations and FE methods. Classical lamination theory codes. Ply-by-ply strain and max stress failure criterias. Preloaded fastener analysis per NASA-STD-5020. Bolted/pinned joints. Metallic fracture analysis via NASGRO. Kinematic mounting design for optical components. Static, acoustic, vibration, and thermal test oversight and instrumentation definition. Laminate/bonded joint coupon testing per ASTM standards and B-Basis allowable creation. Dynamic test model correlation.Technical presentations given for Aerospace Corporation, JPL, Sandia National Laboratory, Northrop Grumman, NAVAIR, Ball Aerospace, Mitsubishi Electric, Space Systems/Loral, Goodrich, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, etc.Contributed to projects including:Large orbital space telescope primary mirror support structure and fold mirror optical benchesMultiple thermal/hygroscopic stable composite structures and optical benches for government, commercial, and civil customersDual shell gridded sandwich and isogrid membrane satellite antenna reflectorsNASA James Webb Space Telescope primary mirror support structure (PMBSS Center Section, Wings, and BSF)JPL Low Density Supersonic Decelerator Core Structure Assembly (LDSD)JPL OSTM/Jason-2 microwave altimeterNGC Global Hawk RQ-4B CDL radomeNGC Firescout MQ-8B nosecone radome -
