Mr. Barton is currently serving as President and General Manager for Westelcom Communications, a regional communications services provider offering internet, data, and telephone services throughout Northern New York State. Mr. Barton was born in Alexandria Bay, NY on March 1, 1962 and attended LaFargeville Central High School graduating in June 1980. He entered Syracuse University in September 1980 with a 4-year Air Force ROTC scholarship in Electrical Engineering. In May 1984, he graduated from Syracuse with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Mr. Barton served 10 years in the Air Force acquisition and contracting community holding multiple program management positions in the areas of communications, computers and intelligence. In 1988, Mr. Barton completed his Masters of Business Administration from the University of West Florida, and in 1992 completed a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts. In August 1994, Mr. Barton separated from the Air Force at the rank of Captain and moved his family to Clayton, NY. From August 1994 through August 1997, Mr. Barton acted as a consultant to the United States Department of Defense. In May 1996, Mr. Barton founded Geographic Internet Services Company (GiSCO), and led the explosive growth of GISCO into a regional internet services company that provided internet access, web design, consulting and software development services to over 25,000 customers throughout New York State. His company was acquired by Westelcom in May 2001. He served as Chairman of the Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Clayton Youth Commission. Mr. Barton has four children: Benjamin, Jaime, Alexandria, and Lindsay.
