About Paul Fein
I have always been drawn to tinkering with mechanics, and learning how things work. For as long as I can remember, I have loved working with machines like bikes and cars to figure out how to fix and improve them. Through professional and academic experiences, my focus shifted to the human body, as a massage therapist, personal trainer, and physical therapist. I discovered the field of mechanical engineering and medical devices, which combined both of my passions - improving people's lives through better functioning bodies, and working with mechanics. I thrive in a collaborative environment that supports creativity and mutual support, and believe strongly that the best ideas emerge when people's individual strengths are nurtured.
Listed skills include Engineering, Research, Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis, and 19 others.

Senior Product Engineer I
As a product design engineer at Arthrex, I designed and developed Class I and Class II medical devices. My primary focus has been on the development of Nitinol Orthopedic implants for the foot and ankle, as well as implants with traditional materials. The most successful product line I worked on became the fastest growing in company history, with over $40 million in revenue annually. After launch I used root cause analysis techniques to solve several post-launch design issues. Once this product reached maturity, I redesigned several of the instruments to save over $300k in COGs annually, by reducing assembly steps from nine to three, and assembly components from sixteen to six. • Met with end users to collect and clarify user needs to guide design solutions• Applied engineering skills and principles to design products for injection molding, ultrasonic welding, traditional machining, laser-cutting, EDM, and rapid prototyping• Modified parts for rapid ideation using Mini Lathe and Mini 4-axis mill• Prepared and support FDA applications and responses for Class II devices• Prepared CAD models and engineering drawings using principles of GD&T in Pro/E and Solidworks• Interfaced with vendors to produce prototypes and final product with cost and design for manufacturing in mind• Designed and complete mechanical testing protocols and reports, creating custom jigs as needed • Analyze Nitinol device prototypes with Finite Element Analysis.• Review prior art for freedom to operate concerns and areas for patentability • Assist in the creation of patent applications, with four issued patents and two patents pending• Maintain electronic design history file.
