I am responsible for researching and prototyping new technologies for possible integration into the CANSTAR suite of supported products. I am also responsible for ensuring other staff members were adequately trained to be able to use the new systems.I am also the senior UNIX system administrator here and am regularly called upon to help troubleshoot difficult problems. I have had great success in improving system responsiveness and stability.

I am responsible for a team of 4 operations staff, who manage a variety of systems including several Unix (RHEL) servers and Oracle database servers. I am a strong technical resource for the company as I have detailed knowledge of the IT systems and how they all relate to each other.I am also responsible for numerous custom developed web based applications for external clients. These include full applications to provide specific information based on a customers needs, to providing web services for other institutions to include in their own intranet and internet websites.

I started here as a Perl Analyst Programmer to help improve a lot of the manual and automated processes. During the course of my employment I started higher duties as a seconded Systems Analyst. This involved managing the body of work coming into our team, when it was started, finished and helping to gather requirements to better help delivery of the work.I was also responsible for routine application maintenance and releases. I would coordinate the release and manage the expectations of the business. I would often perform the release as well.

This position was to help develop and improve internal applications, to better help manager SLA's with vendors and internal business clients. As part of this, I was instrumental in helping design the application and database structures. It was my responsibility to ensure my code adhered to the department guidelines and all documentation was completed accurately and completely.

Here I was helping to design, implement and maintain new features for their bespoke configuration management database application.

I was responsible for maintaining the PHP code on elements of the det.qld.edu.au websites. I was also briefly managing a team of HTML developers, who would implement the new content designed by the producers.I was also helping to implement the new InterWoven content management system.

I started out as the junior system administrator here and worked my way up to senior system administrator. It was my role to ensure all services had the maximum amount of uptime possible, so dialup customers and website owners could access our servers 24/7.
