Paul Goriup has a BSc in Botany and Zoology, and an MSc in Conservation Science. He is an invited member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (serving as Editor of the technical journal, PARKS, since 1991) as well as the IUCN Species Survival Commission.Paul Goriup has worked for more than 25 years worldwide on biodiversity issues, including much of Europe, North and East Africa, Central and Southern Asia, and the Middle East. He is familiar with the major conventions relating to international wildlife conservation (Biological Diversity, Bonn, Bern, Ramsar, CITES, and World Heritage) as well as EU Directives.From 1982-1986, Paul Goriup worked at the International Council for Bird Preservation (now BirdLife International), where he managed over 300 projects − from small survey expeditions to large multilateral aid-funded projects. The series of Important Bird Area inventories started under his supervision. In 1986, Paul Goriup established the Nature Conservation Bureau Ltd, which is one of the largest private biodiversity management consulting companies in Britain. From 1989 to 1996 he helped to establish and later served, on a part-time basis, as the first Executive Director of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. This body, which now has over 4,000 members, is the leading professional institute for those pursuing careers in nature conservation and ecology. In 1996, Paul Goriup founded one of Britain’s first positively ecological public shareholding companies, FIELDFARE International Ecological Development.
