Paul Schaefer (II or “Jr”) of Sage Homes is a custom home builder in Punta Gorda Florida who specializes in Energy Efficient and Accessible designs. We chose the name ‘Sage’ because the word holds multiple meanings: the color green (Paul holds certification as a Certified Green Professional), it’s a medicinal herb (two of the tenets of green building are Energy Efficiency & Healthy Indoor Environments), and the word also denotes wisdom with which we design the homes we build to suit the confines of the lot, our customers' budgets and their wants & needs. Paul also holds the designation of Certified Aging in Place Specialist which aids him in designing homes to be visitable today, and accessible for the owners tomorrow. Our goal is to build an energy efficient and accessible home which can enable the owners to live in them as long as possible.Sage Homes is a family business including Paul’s parents, wife and nephew, “I couldn’t do it without my family/our team”.Paul grew up working with “Pop” in various contracting efforts. A graduate of the University of Florida, Paul was a Florida Certified Public Accountant (aced the exam before he graduated!) and worked as an Auditor, and then for a national builder prior to returning to his roots/earlier experience in home building and has been building in Punta Gorda for nearly 20 years. Paul & Paul built homes with Habitat for Humanity’s “Builders’ Blitz” two years in a row, an experience which Paul (Jr) recalls fondly; “it was great to work with other local contractors to build those homes for people who needed a hand-up; it was an extremely rewarding experience both professionally and spiritually.”Paul has also served on the Board of Directors of the Charlotte DeSoto Building Industry Association (President 2011), as well as the Board of Burnt Store Meadows Property Owners Association and currently sits on the Board of Trustees for Charlotte Preparatory School.Their Schefflera model is an example of a highly energy efficient build: “at nearly 3400 sf under air, it calc’d out at a mere 3 tons of cooling; with the addition of the solar panels on the roof, the home is aiming for net zero.”They’ve built homes of all shapes & sizes, from an 872 sf “tiny home” right on up to 4500+ sf homes. “As a family business, we provide our customers with a continuity one might not experience at a larger home builder. We limit the number of homes we build so that we can devote more time to each customer to provide them with a better, more personal experience.”The Schaefers reside in Punta Gorda.
