Paul H. Smits, CPCU, CIC, AIM, Client Executive at Sentinel Risk Advisors, brings 38 years of successful experience in the insurance industry to the firm. He began his career as a Medical Professional Liability Underwriter with The St. Paul Insurance Company in Charlotte, NC. After writing a program that streamlined underwriting, he was promoted to CHQ in St Paul, MN to work on a Redesign Team to improve underwriting workflows with automation. He was then promoted to a Sr. Underwriting Compliance Analyst. After several years in corporate, he returned to the field as a Commercial Lines Manager leading a team of 12. In 1999, he left the carrier side to become a top Producer with Cameron M. Harris agency in Charlotte. In 2002, he joined Carpenter Cammack & Associates (CCA) as a top producer and sales manager which led to ownership in CCA. CCA was sold to Arthur J Gallagher, Inc. in 2007. In 2012, Paul joined BB&T Insurance Services/McGriff as a Design Professional Specialist handling the Architects & Engineers program in Greensboro, NC as well as a large book of construction, manufacturers and healthcare accounts. In 2021, he then joined Sentinel Risk Advisors working out of the Charlotte office. Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and holds designations as Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Associate in Insurance Management (AIM). He is a member of the Charlotte chapter of CPCU. He resides in Charlotte with his wife, Lynn, and has four children. Paul serves as a volunteer committee member for Union County Young Life, a christian non-profit organization that introduces Christ to High School students.Specialties: Insurance for Architects/Engineers, Construction, Health Care, Manufacturing, Food, Wholesale and Retail industries
