The Irish team worked closely with the DMI Florida software development team for the electronic management of workflow, materials, equipment, personnel, and documentation in installed API sites for enhanced 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. The DMI software system was acquired by Emerson Process Control and integrated with their Delta V platform. The successful three year period in Japan culminated in Paul being selected by the board as one of the three man start up team including 2 senior Japanese executives to commence operations in the UK with a new consumer electronics assembly plant in Durham to service their main customers and avoid EU tariffs.… Show more Greenfield production technology transfer from Japan to UK. The successful three year period in Japan culminated in Paul being selected by the board as one of the three man start up team including 2 senior Japanese executives to commence operations in the UK with a new consumer electronics assembly plant in Durham to service their main customers and avoid EU tariffs. Paul was initially responsible for the recruitment of key personnel including HR Manager and the start up of key production operations including PCB component insertion, soldering, screen printing, product assembly, injection moulding, test and warehousing. As the operation grew, Paul was appointed as BD Account Manager looking after their major customers including Sony, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Ricoh, Panasonic and Hitachi. Products included remote controls, keyboards, video recorders, connectors and harness assemblies. Subsequently an injection moulding facility was set up in Birmingham. On graduation with an honours degree in Production Engineering, Paul was awarded an IDA/AnCo scholarship to move to Japan with an automotive parts supplier and electronics set manufacturer in their Tokyo head office. The programme involved an initial 6 month home stay period to immerse in the culture and language with the family of a senior executive. Paul quickly absorbed the unique culture becoming fluent in the language and in their continuous improvement philosophies. Products included connectors, switches, remote controls, keyboards and sub-assemblies for major brands such as Honda, Suzuki, Sony, Hitachi, Mitsubishi etc. Paul visited customers and suppliers to participate in supply chain, quality and continuous improvement forums in 5S, JIT and the Toyota Kanban system.
