As a freelance consulting scientist, my responsibilities were to engage with different clients, understand their issues, examine the work done to date, advise and occasionally lead projects to a viable and manufacturable solution. This often involved leading technical teams in the concept development and design for manufacture of different products including detectors and biological products. In this position I have successfully built and directed innovative, cross-functional engineering teams; commercialized many products from concept generation, through detailed design up to manufacture and assembly.I have been involved in a number of diverse projects involved in the medical, consumer, military and government industries, including the safe handling and dosage of nuclear medicine and a method for low-cost dosing of chemotherapy drugs.I am a versatile engineering leader and transferred numerous devices to domestic and international manufacturing sites assuring timely release of quality product. As Director of Opto-Electronics at Authentix, I work with our business verticals (Oil&Gas, BankNote, Pharma and Brand) in the conception of new devices to solve a problem or to allow a new business opportunity.For Oil & Gas I helped develop hand-held devices for the detection of minute quantities of fuel markers. These fuel markers are used for measuring fuel dilution or cross-border fuel smuggling. The novel optical system significantly reduces the fuel background while increasing the level of desired signal.For BankNote I have been involved in the conception of devices for both covert and overt security features. The covert features allow for high speed machine classification of currency for various major Central Banks, while the overt features allow for the general public to quickly determine if a currency note is counterfeit.For Pharma, I have been part of the team developing the advanced algorithms for high speed detection of security markers within printed inks.

To provide creative scientific solutions facing the National Security Division of Battelle and their clients. My duties ranged from project conception and initial research and development, through to manufacture. It requires the application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to solve unusually complicated problems.My responsibilities included:Rapid, focused product design involving identification, creation, demonstration and critical evaluation of next-generation technologies. Plan and develop the projects including the selection of appropriate project staff from available resources.Providing technical presentations to senior members of the company in regard to research and development of specific projects. Contribute to setting the strategy and direction for commercialization of technology. Performing project and technical management of the product development teams.

While at CRI I helped create new novel optical system for biological and metrological applications. These new optical systems were generally utilizing esoteric forms of optics - such as multi-spectral imaging which utilized electronically tunable filters, optical polarization detection and total internal reflection evanescent microscopy. Other areas of research and development included image processing for the detection of spindles inside eggs for in vitro fertilization or for the differentiation of cancer cells.I was also involved in the design and manufacture of advanced illumination systems for research grade microscopes. This involved many aspect of the mechanical and optical design, working closely with the electronics team to implement the algorithms and finally with the marketing group to ensure clear specifications for the devices.
