I started playing with various computer systems in 1978 (an IMSAI 8080 with 12 KB of RAM running C/PM), I started working as a Unix consultant in 1994. Since then I have worked as a Pre-Sales Engineer designing and selling technology solutions, leading a staff of administrators keeping business critical systems up and running, managing integration and information technology departments, and managing hosting services. I am currently Director of Engineering for a small software development firm. Before my career in computer technology I worked as a Broadcast Engineer in both Radio and Television (both VHF and UHF). In that capacity I maintained source equipment (cameras, recorders, consoles, etc.) as well as transmission equipment (broadcast transmitters, STL, RPL, etc.). I was also the lead engineer on the design and installation of a remote ENG truck, a computer based edit suite, and a remote news bureau. The latter presented a number of data communication issues as we were using our own microwave links for all communications (video, audio, production intercom, and serial data via modem) except local phone.I spent two years doing Sound professionally before going into computer consulting.I continue to advise Science Fiction Conventions on technical production issues. In 2012 I partnered with two other like minded community theatre sound people to found Capital District Theatre Sound to help small theaters meet their sound needs.

VariousUnified Technologies Jul 1994 - Jun 1999As is typical in a small high tech startup (there were about 10 of us to start) I had many different roles over time, as the needs of the business changed.I started as a Technical Writer both editing and then later writing textbooks to go along with a series of Solaris training classes. Eventually we had three classes, Solaris Basics, Solaris Administration, and Advanced Solaris Administration. I was the lead instructor for the Solaris Administration course, one of our most popular. In 1995 I worked on an Enterprise Backup Project for the GE Corporate Research & Development Center (now the Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY). I followed that up with a combination of Pre-Sales design and on site support for a major email rollout at NYS DEC. After that project I became Integration Services Manager and handled Pre-Sales and high level technical support for a customer base between NY City and the Albany, NY area. From there I moved to MIS Manager as I was looking to avoid travel to NYC, and in 1998 I moved back to on site customer support for NYS DEC as a Senior Network Computing Engineer. -
