Paul is an academic, maker and writer teaching across the fields of Art and Design at UWE, Bristol. He has fifteen years of experience as a practice led researcher at the Centre for Fine Print Research investigating the production of digitally mediated artefacts with artists and designers. These academic activities also contribute to Paul's ongoing practice as a visual commentator exploring the role of narrative within objects and materials.Paul's PhD and area of expertise is rooted in the collaborative print studio model that has contributed to defining expectations, functioning, production, publication, output and artisanship of the collaborative studio endeavour. The production of artworks within a research context has enabled Paul to publish a number of peer reviewed journal articles, conference papers, curate exhibitions, present lectures at national / international venues and supervise PhD students. Paul is also an associate editor for the Intellect Journal 'Drawing Research Theory Practice', and an external examiner for the BA (Hons) Design Practice course at the Nanayang Academy of Fine Art Singapore (in partnership with UAL).Paul's creative practice is interdisciplinary in nature and has been recognised both nationally and internationally through a series of juried exhibitions and included in collections at The V & A, Tate Britain, RWA, School of the Art Institute Chicago, National Gallery of Australia Canberra and The Print Centre Philadelphia. Paul has received external research funding as the academic lead for two REACT (Research & Enterprise in Arts & Creative Technologies) grants that connect app technologies with printed matter. He has also undertaken funded art residencies at The University of Texas at Austin, The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design, Wroclaw, Poland and Griffith University, Queensland College of Art, Brisbane, Australia.
