I am the General Counsel of Ballard Spahr LLP.In addition to advising the firm and its lawyers – and other law firms – on matters of professional responsibility and legal ethics, I maintain a diverse counseling and litigation practice. I have a particular focus on advising self-regulatory organizations in the securities and medical certification spheres. I am regularly called on to help those organizations develop and implement, and manage risks associated with, self-regulatory rules, policies, and procedures, and to defend them in related litigation and regulatory proceedings.I also represent companies and their leaders in litigation, and in internal and governmental investigations, concerning securities, corporate governance, intellectual property, advertising, and other types of business issues. I have extensive experience working with management, boards, and outside advisors on communications and compliance strategies in connection with such litigation and in crisis situations.I have been the primary draftsperson of successful dispositive motions and appellate briefs in several significant cases, and of well-received investigation reports in highly publicized matters.I am Co-Chair of Ballard Spahr's Evaluation Committee and a longtime member of its Hiring Committee.
