I currently do 50-100 independent medical reports/ year for insurance companies, lawyers, unions and employers. I have also done assessments of world war II concentration camp survivors for a European government and assessments of residential school survivors for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

I own and operate this clinical trials company. We have 10 employees and several physician investigators. I am Principal Investigator for all psychiatric trials. We are frequently told that we have a model clinical trials site. We have worked with most major pharmaceutical companies and many smaller ones.

I conduct clinical trials in psychiatry and our company conducts trials in a broad range of medical areas in collaboration with other medical specialists. Our completed trials are listed on our website at www.okanaganclinicaltrials.com or www.oktrials.ca.

During this period we undertook an innovative project to integrate the community mental health program and hospital based psychiatric services. We made great strides in reducing the average length of stay in the hospital with the result that there was seldom a waiting list for admission.

We integrated the hospital and community mental health services while developing a range of innovative programs for the mentally ill.

I participated in the development of a number of innovative interdisciplinary programs that reduced inpatient lengths of stay, eliminated waiting lists to get into hospital and diverted psychiatric patients from the emergency department. These programs also facilitated immediate follow-up on discharge from hospital where necessary.

This was a time when medical opinion actually mattered to administration and made a difference in the decisions made about running the hospital and its programs. At the time all such positions were unpaid.

This was an unpaid leadership position in the hospital medical staff that involved extensive committee work, early morning and late night meetings.
