End 2022, Paul Monaghan was named in the 'ITR Global Tax 50' of influencers.Previously, architect of much of the UK co-operative movement’s ethical and environmental excellence for nearly two decades. Before that combined biological sciences research with campaigning on Third World debt and ethical lending. Lead sustainability programmes across the Co-operative Group in areas as diverse as Food, Banking, Insurance, Pharmacy, Funerals and Travel. Contributions included the creation of world-class programmes of environmental management, ethical finance, sustainability reporting and a unique commitment to campaigning and progressive public policy intervention (campaigns instigated in areas as diverse as tar sands / gas shales, neonic pesticides, carbon reporting and votes@16). In 2014, was voted first in Global CEO’s “Top 100 CSR Leaders” poll. Previously served as a member of WWF-UK’s Programme Committee, BRE’s Sustainability Board and Accountability’s Council, where co-chaired their Technical Committee for a number of years. Regularly lectures at various Business Schools and recently co-authored the well-received Lobbying for Good. Kept awake at night by the rise and fall of Wigan Athletic.

In 1997, responsibilities broadened to include social accountability and reporting – recognised with a series of commendations, including World’s Best Sustainability Report.
Ethical Activist
Over 1993-1994, majority of time spent campaigning on issues concerned with Third World debt. In October 1991, founded the Lloyds and Midland Boycott Campaign (LAMB) at Manchester University, and went on to become National Co-ordinator for the most successful commercial Third World debt campaign in Europe. Developed parallel ethical / environmental consultancy services to cover campaign expenses. Clients included: NUS Services, Christian Aid and The Co-operative Bank. During this period was elected President of Manchester University Students Union (one year, 1992- 1993).
