Paul Moroz is board certified in orthopaedic surgery in both Canada and the United States. Until 2022, he was a pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon at the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu, Hawaii and a full clinical professor of surgery at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine. Paul has an MSc in medical science from McMaster University, trained in medicine at the Univ of Calgary, McMaster and the Harvard Medical School where he did his fellowship in pediatric spine surgery. Prior to relocating to Hawaii, Paul practiced for 15 years at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, as an assistant prof at the Univ of Ottawa. Paul has worked as a surgeon and researcher in the developing world for almost 30 years, with a number of NGO’s in Nepal, Bhutan, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nunavut. He has taught trauma courses in Haiti and has worked throughout the Pacific: Fiji, Tonga, American Samoa, Samoa, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Palau, Chuuk, and Yap. Paul has worked with the Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS) and has been an expert consultant with the World Health Organization (WHO) and was honoured in 2012 for his work in Africa by being made a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa. In 2014, Paul was the founding Chair of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Global Surgery Committee (COAGS). In 2021 Paul received the Rotary International “Service Above Self” Award, one of Rotary highest distinctions for exemplary volunteer service internationally. Paul’s surgical subspecialty interest is in pediatric spine problems and he is the past president of the Canadian Pediatric Spine Society. Paul has written several scientific papers for peer reviewed journals as well as chapters for medical textbooks. Paul reviews grants for a variety of National and International organizations and he is a frequent speaker at regional, national and international meetings, usually on spinal surgery, global surgery, and other health topics. Paul is currently involved in collaborative research and education with forensic anthropologists in his role as a Provincial Coroner.Paul returned to Canada in 2022 where he is a surgical assist, medical-legal consultant and an investigating coroner for the Province of Ontario. Paul is a also part-time Professor of Surgery at McMaster University helping to secure surgical trauma equipment for Ukrainian surgeons following the outbreak of war there.
