Make the impossible, possible.C Suite for Christ might be Exhibit A.As a man of strong faith who regularly interacts with fellow professionals, I picked up on something quite a while ago. Call it a desire. Or, maybe a yearning.Businesspeople would talk about their faith with me – but always very low key, in hushed tones, as if it were some monstrous secret to be kept under wraps. I experienced this time and time again.I found it unfortunate. Wrong. Sad. Being a Christian isn’t a crime. No reason existed for these followers of Jesus to have to hide their beliefs.I soon grasped that these people desired community with others: fellow disciples who were also professional peers. And, because of how I roll, I did something about it.C Suite for Christ started in late 2018 with a few dozen attendees. We agreed to meet monthly, and see where it would go. Well, “go” it did!Hundreds of business executives are now associated with our organization. We’re looking at franchising, to reach out to untold numbers of other professionals who want to share the Word. The idea of the “Cold Call Coach” was already in my mind. I’d been making cold calls for six years already (see earlier positions below). This role is where I perfected the techniques.I was a licensed insurance agent selling everything except property and casualty. Sure, no one else out there selling insurance, right?Similarly, I held my securities license and could sell stocks, bonds and mutual funds, and give investment advice. No one else out there doing that, right?You get the picture. I worked in two hyper-competitive fields. I earned based on what I sold. It wasn’t for the faint of heart … and I refused to fail.I tested and refined my cold calling, over and over. I got so good at it that Thrivent featured me in a national training video on “the art of cold calling.” I guess it is art, in a way. It works best when you paint a memorable impression. You should know when to put down the brush, too.This position wasn’t all about selling. I created a non-profit division of Thrivent that coached organizations to use their financial resources as effectively and productively as possible. I worked with the Wisconsin State Legislature on public policy initiatives.All this led up to The Cold Call Coach … and that’s where life really changed.
