I help make the world a better place, one intriguing and well-crafted book at a time. As a book designer, I work with authors and artists to transform their dream of a book into reality. Collaboratively we create something unique and individual to my clients; something that reflects the creator's own personality and the character of their story, while balancing the market-driven needs for the product and industry standards.

Book DesignerIllustrada Llc Nov 2011 - PresentCommunicating ideas and feelings. Helping others to see your passion. Sharing the spark that makes you, or your company, unique—illustrada is storytelling which leverages understanding.Through visual communication design, words and other images reinforce one another to make your content marketing stand out: getting the right information to the right people, at the right time, in the right format, and in the right language. By deeply understanding both you and your customer or clients, I can help bridge the communication divide. Through publication design, especially, my direct client and marketing communications work (in both domestically and international marketing), building on my strengths of learning and explaining, we can make sure your story makes the right impact. -
Special Projects InternMinnesota Center For Book Arts Jun 2015 - Apr 2017Minneapolis, Minnesota, UsThrough MCBA, I have the opportunity to work with illustrator and book artist Gaylord Schanilec and writer John Coy on a truly inspiring project: a children's book, to be published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press, written in the first person perspective of St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. Using found materials from the river, and a great deal of letterpress finesse, we are creating illustrations both of and from the river. This project, and my involvement, will continue through at least 2019, although no longer supported by the MCBA. -

Owner, FounderImc Dataworks, Llc May 2002 - Jul 2013Ann Arbor, Michigan, Usimc DataWorks, the US subsidiary of imc Meßsysteme in Germany, specializes in multi-parameter, mixed-signal mechanical data acquisition, measurement, and control. As founder of the US sales and distribution business, I wore many hats, from business operations and finance to customer development and support. But by far the most enjoyable part of running imc DataWorks was the customers: application development, data analysis, on site training, and marketing communications. With manufacturing clients from heavy trucks to wind turbines, I was able to interact with the brightest engineers at some of America's most innovative companies. I was able to watch, and in my own small way help shape the development and testing of automotive, on/off highway vehicle, power generation systems medical devices, and all the many, many integral components and subsystems that go into making these complex products the technical marvels that they are. That is why, in my last several years with imc, my focus shifted further and further to marketing: to communicate with customers (my clients and friends), to help them to understand what they needed to do, and how to do it efficiently and effectively. -
Sr. Electrical Engineer / Applications EngineerHi-Techniques 1999 - 2002Hi-Techniques specialized in the development and deployment of fast, deep, transient signal capture systems. My electrical and applications design work with Hi-Techniques included development of the calibration rig for the Optrand fiber optic pressure sensor system, research and development work on the PCI based internal bus upgrade, and customer specific software development for imc Meßsysteme's µ-MUSYCS, SPARTAN and BusDAQ data acquisition systems. As my work transitioned to more direct customer interaction, I took over the support and applications development services that Hi-Techniques provided for the imc Meßsysteme product line. This included customer training in both the hardware and software, training manuals and documentation, and the development of customer specific software and analysis routines as part of the sales and support efforts.

Research Assistant/AssociateThe Ohio State University 1993 - 1999Columbus, Ohio, UsPhysics research is an interesting field to be in, one that depends at least as much on your understanding of electronics, computers, software and networking as is does on the underlying science. During my tenure at the Ohio State University, both as a graduate student and later as a Post Doc, I had the opportunity for more hands-on education in engineering (electrical and mechanical) and statistical analysis (monte carlo and data analysis) than I ever could have hoped to in those departments! Most recently, I was involved Development of prototype fiber optic communication PCI card for a Linux based communication interface for the CMS detector at the LHC accelerator at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. My thesis work involved the development of statistical analysis and data processing code in a mixed C/Fortran environment, and reporting of results of D* photoproduction studies at the Zeus detector at the HERA accelerator at DESY, Hamburg, Germany. And as part of OSU's contribution to the Zeus experiment, I was intimately involved in the maintenance and upgrades of Trigger system subcomponent of Zeus detector at the HERA accelerator at DESY, Hamburg, Germany. Our dependence on massive distributed networks of parallel processors to crunch Petabytes of data also meant a great deal of Unix / Linux system administrator for DEC/Alpha and Sun workstations and development and deployment of Linux-PC based parallel computing farm for physics analysis.Refer to publication list: http://inspirehep.net/author/profile/P.Nylander.1
