I am G. Ramanathan, and despite having a disability, I have never allowed it or my surroundings to hinder my goals. I originally studied computer science, but my true passion has always been engaging with people. In 2000, I completed a year-long training organized by UNESCAP focused on creating non-handicapped environments. After this, I began working in community-based rehabilitation with World Vision in Bangalore and later joined Every Child UK as a Program Officer, concentrating on the rehabilitation of street children.In 2005, I co-founded Sama Foundation to address disability issues within a social context rather than just focusing on medical needs. Our main goals are to promote inclusive education and livelihood opportunities for people with disabilities in Karnataka. I am passionate about creating joyful experiences for children in challenging situations. For instance, we have organized adventure camps at Honnemardu, where disabled children can enjoy activities like swimming, trekking, riverside walks, and boating. We also host an annual event called "Makkala Habba," filled with fun activities for children.My vision is for every Gram Panchayat to have an inclusive government school, ensuring that children with disabilities have access to education without suffering. Additionally, our community work includes helping underprivileged youth gain employable skills. I am also an adventure enthusiast, with a particular fondness for bullet rides—I once traveled from Kanyakumari to Bangalore in just 12 hours. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, especially compositions by Illayaraja and R.D. Burman.
