I'm a Former Group Chair for Vistage, the world's leading organisation for Managing Directors and Chief Executives wanting to grow their businesses and develop themselves. As Managing Director of England Cricket, I lead a national sport through a turbulent period both on and off the field. On the field I calmly made the difficult decisions to lay the foundations for the re-building of the England team, off the field I reported to 3 chief executives in 16 months. It was a rich leadership experience and inspired me to take a professional coaching qualification to help me develop as an executive coach working with business leaders. I played cricket 58 times for England during a successful playing career before building an equally successful career in the City of London as an institutional equity broker. I worked for three of the City's leading firms of James Capel, Cazenove and JP Morgan, experiencing huge change as the market evolved through Big Bang to electronic high frequency trading. Throughout my career I built longstanding professional relationships advising many of the City's best known fund managers and was responsible for my firm's business with a number of the City's largest asset managers including BlackRock, M&G and Legal & General. The importance of leadership and investing in people are two of my abiding passions. With the privilege of regularly having met and worked with some of our most dynamic business and sporting leaders, from FTSE 100 CEOs, Aim listed entrepreneurs to England's leading sporting coaches and captains, it is always the people who make the difference. I am also passionate about teams and team work. I intend my Vistage Group to have all the characteristics of a high performance team. Performing under pressure is often visible in sport, and often not so visible in business, but the fundamentals are the same and the lessons learnt are applicable to both.
