About Paul Evans

Paul Evans is the Associate Vice President of External Affairs at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI), a basic neuroscience research Institute and the first and only US-based Institute of the Max Planck Society, the leading worldwide non-profit research organization. As the AVP of External Affairs, he serves as MPFI’s ambassador representing the Institute in scientific matters in the academic, business, scientific, and government sectors while providing oversight of MPFI’s external partnerships, collaborations, and agreements. Paul also directs the Institute’s external engagement to strengthen MPFI’s strategic initiatives and foster the development of the local life science ecosystem and opportunities for innovation. Paul earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Emory University prior to joining Max Planck Florida in 2016.

    Paul Evans earned his PhD in Neuroscience from Emory University where he elucidated a novel calcium-dependent mechanism by which the signaling protein RGS14 blocks learning/memory and synaptic plasticity in the CA2 region of the hippocampus. Paul received an individual pre-doctoral training fellowship (F31 NRSA) from NIH/NINDS, and completed ambitious collaborative training in the labs of Serena Dudek and Ryohei Yasuda.Paul was also active in leadership roles during his doctoral training at Emory University serving as President of the Graduate Student Council (2013-2014, Divisional Assembly for all students in the Laney Graduate School of Arts and Sciences) and Co-President of Graduates in Neuroscience (2012-2014).
