My experience included:• Project management• Strategic water resource and supply infrastructure master planning• Conducting feasibility studies and pilot projects for future infrastructure, including concept and preliminary infrastructure design• Computer hydraulic modelling and analysis of water distribution networks• Modelling and advising on the operation of water resources and the bulk water distribution system• Procuring services of consultants and contractors through bid and tender processesProject experience at the City of Cape Town included:• Project manager of the Table Mountain Group (TMG) Aquifer groundwater production scheme, including the design and drilling of fractured rock aquifer production boreholes, between 200m - 800m deep. The first phase of the scheme will yield around 10 million m3/a. • Project manager of the TMG Aquifer groundwater feasibility study and pilot project, which included the drilling of 3,000m of exploration and pilot deep rock boreholes and establishing a baseline environmental monitoring programme to assess impacts of a production scheme.• Project manager of the seawater desalination feasibility study, developing the concept and producing the preliminary design of a 150 - 450 Ml/d desalination plant, and pipelines, pumpstations and reservoirs required for integration into the water supply system. • Project manager of the 100 - 150 Ml/d water reuse for drinking water use feasibility study.• Project manager of the preliminary design and EIA study for a proposed water augmentation scheme, comprising a 500 Ml/d water treatment plant, two 300 Ml reservoirs and 56km of bulk pipelines.• Modelling the operation of regional water resources and the bulk water supply system and advising on the operation of the systems to maximise water availability and supply redundancy.• Part of the water and sanitation network modelling and master planning team, using the EPANET-based software WADISO.
