So I've certainly had an eclectic career to date. Education and SEN professional, writer, chef, critic, activist, promter, musician and so on. I've now finally found my way into my dream career path - working to create climate and environmental justice. My 'day job' is within the North West Net Zero Hub as Engagement Lead. Working with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, we help businesses and local authorities as they work towards Net Zero goals. Specific to my role is the building of a strong network, creating content for our platforms, and supporting partners across the North West to tell their carbon stories. In my 'spare' time, I am a Director and Network Coordinator with Transition Liverpool CIC. Part of the international Transition Towns movement, our goal is to support society in moving to a sustainable, fossil--fuel free future. I am the Project Lead for sPark It Liverpool, managing a team of volunteers with a brief of developing multiple digital and physical assets. I have built relationships with schools, community groups, businesses and councillors which have led to commissions for green infrastructure, education workshops and community consultation. The project has featured in the national press as well as a recent Liverpool City Region policy document from the IPPR think tank, following a successful £10k crowdfunding campaign in December 2020. Other responsibilities include bid writing, social media, PR and network coordination, representing our group and projects on a local, national and international level.Green Champions: In 2019 I was successful in my request for Liverpool City Council to create a Green Champions team. We are now a 40+ strong team, chaired by Assistant Directors from Communities and Environment. Colleagues have joined from Energy, LCC Fleet, Procurement, HR and Communications, to name a few. We are also starting to build relationships with environmental reps from various Trade Unions. As a Green Champion I have the opportunity to consult on LCC policy and strategy documents, which has given me the opportunity to develop relationships with Cabinet Members for Climate & Environment and for Highways and Regeneration, as well as the LCC Cycling Champion, numerous Ward Councillors and a number of other high-level colleagues. These connections have come about due to my high level of activity and ‘visibility’ as an environmental activist within LCC and are quite unusual for someone who works at my particular grade in the council.
