Supporting the team around software and IT

After leaving Thermserve at the end of my placement I was offered a full time job at the CEX store in Wolverhampton. This was a 38 hour week job during my studies. My main role with CEX was sales and the buying in phones and other technologies. During my time within CEX I learned how to identify faults within phones, laptops and tablets, from water damage to software issues.

During my degree it was necessary to complete a placement year. For this I spent ten months working within Thermserve. My main roles during the year were project management and software programming, for the design and implement an SQL database system with a C# GUI. This served to control key project data between departments of sales, design and manufacture. After leaving my full time role as assistant manager at Blockbusters for university, I was contacted by my former manger to return to his Sutton Coldfield Store as a Christmas Temp, after Christmas this became a permanent part time job during my studies at university which I leave during my placement year. Once a new full time manger had been hired to the store I was promoted to assistant manger by the area manager, this was due to the skill deployed during the stores lack of management for 3 months. My first major duty was to organize the upcoming PS3 launch. This ranged from pushing pre orders of the console all the way to the midnight launch, and maximizing bundles. Even with limited staff and the systems high cost for a low income area we were able to greatly exceed our sales targets. Even with limited staff and the systems high cost for a low income area we were able to greatly exceed our sales targets. This was due to a mixture of targeting the systems points to different consumers. For the gamer consumer we would push the power and launch line-up, and for the non gamer or causal consumer we would push elements like the blue ray drive being the most power on the market for the cheapest price. During my management role my duties mainly consisted of keep high sale levels within hardware and pre owned software, meeting weekly targets within the store and staff management. To be able to keep high sales I took control of staff rotas so I could control when staff member with the best sales techniques were in, ensure the shop floor has the best staff during high consumer levels like weekends and week nights. Due to the sale of Gamestation to Game the store was to be closed, I was offered the role as assistant manger within the new Blockbusters Walsall store, However I turned down the role as I had plans to return to full time education. In January my manger was promoted to a new store and asked me to move to his new store as senior sales. Here my role was to push sales on the shop floor, meeting sales targets and keeping the store stock and environment to a high standard. The following January the manager and assistant manger left the store for new roles in a different company. This effectively left me as acting manager for three months.

I moved to Gamestation New Street store as a Christmas temp, however my love for working in Gamestation meant that I took any and all extra hours available to me and pushed myself with every task issued. Thanks to this I was given a full time job after Christmas working in the downstairs section of the store. Here I was tasked with stock merchandising and shop floor sales.
