Camp Good Mourning! is Long Island's ONLY free, overnight, weekend bereavement camp for Long Island children, ages 7-17, who are coping with the loss of a parent and/or sibling.

• 1,200+ hours of bereavement counseling experience, serving more than 3,000 youth between the ages of 6 and 18 who are coping with the loss of a loved one• Plan, implement, and facilitate bereavement-related activities to provide campers with opportunities to share their grief story, express their feelings, identify coping skills, and discuss ways in which they can stay connected to their loved one and other campers• Facilitate teambuilding activities that focus on developing social and emotional skills including respect, communication, listening, empathy, forming and maintaining friendships, decision-making, and goal setting• Conduct nightly meetings with Big Buddies to process the day’s events, identify and discuss camper issues, and provide support for Big Buddies whose own bereavement-related issues are triggered through the grief work• Supply caregivers with feedback and resources for themselves and their children• Assess applicants through parent/guardian interviews, mentoring new Support Group Leaders, orchestrate Circle of Remembrance memorial service • Provide one-to-one mentoring, emotional support, and supervision for campers, Big Buddies, and future Healing Circle Leaders
