I had hit on a way to combine my twin obsessions of mobile and entrepreneurship. My team and I had the real McCoy start-up experience: working from our garages day and night, living and breathing the company. My next adventure was on the campus company scene. South East Technical University (SETU) has a vibrant research and innovation group that specialises in technology spin-outs. After a stint as Product Centre Manager, during which I brought in approximately $2 million in commercialisation funding, I founded and ran Zolk C, a tourism and heritage technology company. At Zolk C, we created the award-winning, world-first commercial GPS-enabled, AR and VR hand-held guide at the historic Culloden site in Scotland. I drove company revenues to over €1 million in just four years and raised €1.2 million in venture funding. Following Zolk C I was a co-founder and COO at Nearform, I (and my great cofounders!) grew the company from less than 10 people to more than 140. Nearform was one of a small cohort of companies worldwide that had early deep expertise in the leading-edge technologies of Node.js and microservices. While there I helped some of the world’s biggest names including EY, Universal, Conde Nast and DPD, among others - to leverage these technologies. Conjura is a next generation data analytics platform to help companies shape and execute eCommerce & online selling strategies. Conjura has great customers including Radley, Currentbody and Cath Kidston. It was exciting to deploy data science and ML / AI tech!
