Supporting and developing services for the National Art Library and the V&A staff intranet. Working with the library system Horizon by SirsiDynix, and the wiki Confluence by Atlassian. Working across a Unix/Linux and Windows environment, Sybase, My SQL, Tomcat, Apache, web services and applications, etc.

Customer support, development and QA for a range of ILS products including Aquabrowser, Vubis Smart, and a new e-resource management system called V-Sources. Required a combination of library professional skills and knowledge, a high level of IT and systems competency, good communication skills, and a great problem-solving can-do approach.

A one year fixed term contract to implement electronic information systems to manage the Library and Archives of the National Portrait Gallery, London:Provided expert advice and skills in systems procurement and implementation working with the Archivist and Librarian, and providing technical support for the Gallery's IT department. I led a Gallery wide consultation and project committee reporting to the Senior Management Team. During this project I was on sabbatical leave from my Assistant System Manager role at the University of the Arts London.The Library consisted of c.40,000 volumes, while the Archive dated from the Gallery's foundation in 1856, and both had been managed on a number of FileMaker Pro databases and Word documents after the card catalog was closed in 1994. The project required an information audit and functional and operational requirements analysis.Project budget: £37,000.Two systems were acquired and implemented:Calm for Archives - a server-client Windows system following ISAD(G) description and cataloging rules.EOS Web - a web-client based Integrated Library System running on a locally hosted Windows server. Full MARC 21 support including authorities and holdings.I managed the data migration in-house with support from EOS for bibliographic data, converting delimited text files to MARC 21 or the Calm import format. Tools used included MarcEdit (http://oregonstate.edu/~reeset/marcedit/html/index.php).Web based on-line public access was configured for both systems and delivered for internal use (available within the Local Area Network only at present).I delivered staff training in the use of both systems.The project was completed successfully, on-time and well within budget.

Supported a large Integrated Library System (ILS), c.16,000 student users, and c.80 Library and Learning Resources staff.Activities and achievements included:Procurement of the ILS, (Voyager from Endeavor).Bibliographic and acquisitions data migration.Training and end-user support.Procurement and installation of hardware for the ILS.Managed and developed the on-line public access catalog (OPAC): Apache web server, HTML, Javascript.Implementated the Clio Inter-Library Loan management system to work in conjunction with the Voyager ILS.Supported the use of the MARC 21 bibliographic data standard.Managed the implementation of acquisitions and serials in the new ILS, providing leadership and support and writing help sheets.Supported acquisition and serials management for over six years, including financial year roll-over and statistical reporting.Supported the implementation of the Electronic Resources mnagement systems SFX and Metalib: XML, the Tomcat web server, Dublin Core metadata standards, and z39.50 search configuration.Provided reports Access Reports, Perl and SQLplus.Project managed the implementation of the TalisList on-line reading list management system.Contributed to the Library and Learning Resources web pages, using the RedDot Content Management System, and to the creation of a shared 'Cyberoffice' presence (using BlackBoard), and a shared network storage and work area.Assisted in the implementation of Calm for Archives, an ISAD(G) standard Archive management system, for the Kubrick Archive (http://www.arts.ac.uk/kubrick-archive.htm).

Collection development, acquisitions, cataloging and classification.Reader services and inquiries.Supervised a team of para-professionals and student part-timers.

Part of the Acquisitions team. Liaised on gifts and donations.Managed the ephemera and jobbing printing collection, developing links with graphic designers and printers.

Solo Librarian managing the pre-eminent art history library for the early modern period in Scotland, serving the curators of the National Gallery and the research community. c. 55,000 volumes, budget £20,000.Contributed to a Integrated Library System procurement project.Project managed a complete Library refit, including the installation of rolling shelving, doubling storage space, to a budget of £50,000.Managed a team of volunteers who assisted in the management of the object files and archives.Managed all new photography, commissioning the photographer and supervising the gallery technicians.Entrusted with several courier trips, escorting works of art to London and Paris.

Managed the book and serial binding. General acquisitions and cataloguing. The international nature of suppliers and materials required working with French, German, Italian and Latin.
