Co-founder and Director/Company Secretary. Christmas FM, an all voluntary not for profit station has raised in excess of €2.5 million for its charity partners since its launch in 2008. The station broadcasts across Ireland every December on FM. It is also available online via the website as well as apps for Android and IOS.Among those who have benefitted are ISPCC, Age Action, Barnardos, Simon, Make A Wish Ireland and most recently Focus Ireland. Sponsorship of the station has been provided by several blue chip companies such as Tesco, Cadbury, Coca Cola, Lidl, Dunnes, An Post, Centra and EBS among others.Currently my primary responsibilities include dealing with Broadcasting Authority on an ongoing basis as well as coordinating the business and regulatory affairs of the station and ensure full compliance with broadcasting codes.

I made my first venture into the radio business in 1978 as a presenter on Capitol Radio (Dublin). The station was unique at that time as it was mainly album orientated and featured mostly American artists in contrast to its pop/chart driven competitors.Following a stint as producer of the rock show on Southside Radio, I joined Radio Dublin although left shortly after to co found my own station with a number of colleagues. In 1981 ABC Radio was launched and continued to broadcast until late 1984. The next few years were spent as an advisor/behind the scenes with a number of stations.With the enactment of the 1988 Broadcasting Act I served as secretary of the National Association of Community Broadcasting (NACB). Two of our member groups in Wicklow and Kilkenny were subsequently awarded the franchises in their respective areas.In 1991 I was instrumental with a group of like minded individuals in setting up Anna Livia FM (now Dublin City FM)to celebrate Dublin’s tenure as European City of Culture. Following the success of that project, the management of the station lobbied for a permanent license which was awarded to us following a competitive tender process. Served as Finance Director for the station.After a hiatus I returned to the newly relaunched Premier FM in 1997. Co-founder and director of the company formed in 2001 to regularize the status of the station. Premier had operated on a full time basis since 1997 in the absence of a broadcast license and voluntarily ceased transmissions in 2003. We were subsequently the first “multi city” station to be licensed by the Broadcasting Commission in the Republic of Ireland. Since 2008 my radio involvement has been with Christmas FM were I am a Co-Founder and Director.

Following the voluntary closure of Premier FM in the wake of Comreg action against unlicensed stations, the SRA was formed to map a way forward.I attended numerous meetings over the course of the year and contributed to the SRA Framework document which set out our vision of a "third strand". This effectively positioned specialist music stations between the commercial and community sector with the emphasis on a lean, low cost model.Sections of the document were subsequently referenced in the OX Report which was commissioned by the Minister for Communications. Members of the association went on to become involved with stations such as Phantom, Christmas FM & Hot Country among others.

Was a member of the management team that established the station under temporary license from the Broadcasting Commission to coincide with Dublin’s tenure as European City of Culture in 1991.Following the success of the station helped to found the Public Service Radio Association and successfully lobbied for a permanent license for public service radio. Following a competitive tender process, the Association were awarded a 10-year license bringing about the station’s return to air in 1992. Acted as Finance Director for the station.
