Dr. Simone is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Memphis. At the Univ. of Memphis, he works in the Mobile Analytical Monitoring and Miniaturization Laboratory (MAMML) to develop new technologies for automated, on-line monitoring and process control of regulated chemicals in drinking water distribution systems. These technologies are developed to simplify process control operations and decision making at Drinking Water Treatment plants. Currently, Dr. Simone is focused on trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs), the two most common chlorination disinfection by-products that are federally regulated by the USEPA. Dr. Simone has also co-founded a company with Dr. Gary L. Emmert, Foundation Instruments, Inc. Foundation Instruments is a high-tech, small business spin out from the University of Memphis. The company was founded to commercialize the intellectual property developed in MAMML and ultimately help drinking water superintendents and operators identify and control when THMs and HAAs form in the water treatment plant.
