Hi, I’m Paul Szoldra (pronounced ZOAL-druh). I'm currently a computer science student, but I've also been a national security writer, editor, military analyst, and United States Marine. I'm also a dad, husband, entrepreneur, and an unapologetic hater of military acronyms (UHMA).My career began after Sept. 11, 2001, in the Marine Corps infantry. I served across the Indo-Pacific, contributed to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and trained thousands of Marines for combat as an instructor with the Infantry Training Battalion in California. After my military service, I transitioned into journalism as an intern at Business Insider, eventually becoming the Military & Defense Editor and Correspondent for Tech Insider (RIP). I was the inaugural Executive Editor of We Are The Mighty and the longest-serving Editor-in-Chief at Task & Purpose. Under my leadership, we cultivated a premier news and culture site for the military community, expanding our reach to over 5 million monthly readers.Additionally, I'm the Founder of Duffel Blog, a satirical newsletter launched in 2014 that is now a staple read in the Pentagon and among troops globally, and The Ruck, a newsletter dedicated to unpacking complex national security issues.
