Paul is a pilot and scientist, retiring from the Army into work as a commercial pilot and research professor. An active duty Army officer for two decades and retired Lieutenant Colonel, Paul commanded and led reconnaissance and armor units in Iraq, Korea, Afghanistan, and at the Army's National Training Center in the Mojave Desert. Paul culminated his armed service as Fordham University's longest serving Professor of Military Science, leading character-based officer education for undergraduate and graduate students in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Paul is an aspiring commercial pilot, working towards a FAA Commercial Pilot certificate with multiengine land and sea (MEL/MES) and ultimately Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. A former firefighter and EMT, he aspires to fly in aerial firefighting, air ambulance, non-standard cargo or seaplane operations.He is a conservation scientist, with expertise in fieldwork and researching governance in remote environments with high uncertainty. His research program explores social ecological system vulnerabilities involving endangered species and protected areas. Post-Army, he plans to continue scholarship and teaching as a research professor. Paul is a Fellow and elected Director of the Explorers Club, where he also helps lead the Club's Public Lectures Committee and Military & Veterans Initiative.
