Appointed principal Group underwriter for US Residential Construction (construction defects) in Oct 2007 following departure of Dublin based team which had established XL in the class in 2003. Key Achievements include formulating a strategy which resulted in XL retaining 100% of the Residential Construction portfolio against the outgoing Dublin team in 2007, designing XL’s 2009 Residential Construction Risk Analysis and Underwriting Tool and Residential Construction Rating Tool and in 2009, recording an actuarially verified +25% rate change on Residential Construction book.

Role: Underwriting, portfolio management and new business production.Underwriting large non-marine North American excess liability risks including contractors and construction projects, mining, energy (up and down stream, transmission, distribution and renewable), chemical, utility, industrial, consumer products, railroads and trucking and development of new business initiatives including acceptance by treaty reinsurers and supporting the treaty relationship.Key Achievements include being the principal author of the London Short Excess Form for US excess casualty now in universal use in the London market and which is the base for the wording of Marsh London’s US excess casualty form, pioneering XL’s underwriting of “integrated” programs for major contractors and preparing and driving XL’s initiative to write “soft” chemicals and auto parts on the occurrence form (which was no easy feat!).

Role: Assisting the Chief Underwriting Officer with the management of the 14 lines of business within the Specialties division with specific focus on LoB performance monitoring, trouble shooting, liaison with LoB heads and latterly underwriting.Specific jobs included financial analysis and planning, preparation, testing and monitoring of the divisional strategic business plan and individual LoB plans including monitoring thereof, performance trouble shooting where necessary and liaison with CFO, actuaries and other senior management.Underwriting of the general North American liability portfolio with particular emphasis on construction, chemical, and energy related business, liaising with reinsurers and other parts of the Group, conception and development of new business initiatives including acceptance by treaty reinsurers and supporting the treaty relationship.Key Achievements include the design and development of various underwriting management tools, in particular the Specialties KPI Monitoring Tool which provided the means to monitor the performance metrics of each of Specialties 14 LoBs on a real time basis, versions of which are now used by 3 other insurers, the Line of Business Planning template, Monthly Report template. designing ZSL’s Financial Planning, Portfolio Risk Analysis and Underwriting tools, writing ZSL’s underwriting guidelines for Delay in Completion and Performance Shortfall and designing and managing Zurich's implementation of TRIA compliance protocols

Specialist financial and contractual risk transfer insurance consultancy established to perform product development, risk analysis and underwriting systems development for insurers and project finance banks. Specific expertise in project revenue stream and balance sheet protection against delay in completion and performance shortfall, cost overrun, enforced economic abandonment, wrongful termination of contract and loss of essential resources for project sponsors, developers, lenders and contractors involved in major construction projects world-wide. Key Achievement: a 15 month four phase project for the board of a UK subsidiary of a major Swiss insurance group which included a unique and comprehensive analysis of the global construction market and the effects of global and national economics thereon, a review of all types of available construction related insurance products, a study of the growing role of project finance in the construction industry, conceptualisation and development of a new product range, preparation of underwriting systems for the product range and marketing strategy development

Role: management of the General Liability department of the North American division, including travel and production within North America, risk analysis, programme design, all aspects of account strategy and placing, broking within the London and International markets, coordinating and organising London and International marketing, liaison with and coordination of other Group divisions;
