Profile bio

About Paul Watissée

I am currently a Consultant at PEAK Wind, in the Operations Economics & Analytics team. I take lead on offshore wind farms modelling and business case projects. In August 2024, I completed PEAK Wind's 2-year Graduate Programme, where I have been actively part of 3 different teams of the company to discover various fields but also to connect and work with inspiring professionals. I have developed core skills in wind farm O&M (logistics assessment, production-based availability modelling, OPEX, floating wind major component replacement) as well as analytical skills along with the development of tools in Python.Prior to that, I finished my double Master's degree on Sustainable Energy - Wind Energy at DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and on Energy at École des Mines de Nancy (France). Along this journey, I acquired core skills and knowledge in the wind energy field through courses, group projects, an internship at EDF Renewables and my Master's thesis where I developed my interest on floating wind.

Master'S Thesis - Optimizing Aep Of A Floating Wind Farm With Moveable Wind Turbines

Copenhagen, Capital Region, Denmark

This Master's thesis project was part of my education at DTU - Technical University of Denmark. Grade: AThe project focused on an innovative framework within floating wind: maximizing annual energy production (AEP) of floating wind farms comprising a passive relocation of all turbines. Work carried out: - Conducting a literature review on optimization, floating wind, wind farm control strategies and turbine repositioning.- Building a methodology describing the main features of the wind farm (wind farm layout, wind turbine characteristics, mooring lines), the forces applied to wind turbines and the power output.- Describing different cases corresponding to optimization problems in order to draw relevant comparisons between bottom-fixed platforms and floating wind turbines. - Programming in Python using PyWake, a package for wind farm simulations developed by DTU Wind Energy, and OpenMDAO, an open-source package for optimization purposes. - Showcasing and discussing all results obtained, and carrying out a sensitivity analysis. In particular, the aforementioned control strategy presents significant AEP improvements under specific conditions, highlighting that mooring systems can play a key role in improving offshore floating wind farm efficiencies.

Onshore Wind Engineering Intern - Uncertainties On Extrapolation Of Wind Data

La Défense, Paris, France

Topic of the internship: uncertainties regarding horizontal extrapolation of onshore wind data (from a measurement mast to a wind turbine).Purpose: update values regarding uncertainties on horizontal extrapolation using WindPRO.Work carried out:- Short bibliographic readings in order to define a methodology- Apply the methodology and test on two onshore wind farms operated by EDFR. Use of WindPRO (creation of masts, data importations, PARK calculations...) to run wind speeds calculations and use of Excel to analyze results (comparisons with SCADA data, highlight trends thanks to regressions...).

La Défense, Paris, France

Subsidiary: Total Solar Distributed GenerationSynthesis of solar PV farms costsMain purpose: deducing standard costs of every part of a solar farm. Building new abacus in order to estimate costs of future projects.Synthesis of grid connectionMain purpose: deducing standard costs of grid connection before implementing them in costs abacus. Assessment of all the different connection solutions, used as a reference for future projects.

Academic Project - Designing A Wind Farm Around The Hydropower Plant Of Revin

Nancy, Grand Est, France

Second year project at École des Mines de Nancy, in partnership with EDF Renouvelables. Grade: APurposes: - Site assessment of the zone delimited by EDF Renouvelables (constraints linked to houses, high-voltage overhead lines, roads, waterways, elevation gain, environmental and military aspects...).- Wind resource assessment thanks to data obtained on a measure mast and provided by EDF Renouvelables (vertical extrapolation of wind speeds, wind rose, Weibull distribution, turbulence intensity...).- Calculating the power generation of a single wind turbine thanks to data provided by EDF concerning a wind turbine (rated power, power curve, hub height, rotor diameter...).- Building different designs by placing wind turbines smartly and calculating the power generation of every design, taking into account wake effects.- Economic assessment thanks to data provided by EDF allowing to choose the more profitable design.
