Paul Huggins is a long-term member of the Carbon Trust and leads its global work on Industrial Decarbonisation, co-leads on Climate Policy, Innovation and Clean Cooling, and contributes to Energy Systems and Cities & Regions activities. Paul is passionate about tackling the societal challenge of climate change, and serves as an advisor to governments, UN Environment initiatives, clean technology start-ups, financial institutions and industries. He is an expert on climate policy, product policy, clean technology innovation, green financial services, and industrial decarbonisation. He is a leading technology expert with deep knowledge of 100+ clean technologies needed to facilitate industrial decarbonisation and transform the energy system (e.g. energy efficient products, clean cooling, flexible EV infrastructure). Among other projects, Paul has led UK government programmes targeted at accelerating industrial clean technology innovation deployment, assuring green/clean technologies for financing, green fiscal incentives, and green finance; and led projects developing SE Asian climate policy, European industry sector evaluation of climate policy to identify how to go faster, and regional industrial cluster decarbonisation strategies. He co-led the UNFCCC aligned Climate Action Pathway for Net Zero Cooling by 2050, and is leading a net zero 2050 pathway for energy transition metals for IFC and the mining sector. Paul is an active supporter of the COP26 Champions Team, the Race To Zero and the SEAD initiative. He believes that a successful climate transition will happen within a wider sustainability landscape and is a strong supporter of UN Sustainable Development Goals. Prior to the Carbon Trust, Paul held global business transformation roles in the earth resources industry. He holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, and an MSc in artificial intelligence from the University of Aberdeen.
