Leads a team of 85 union and non-union employees in all operational activities for the production of electric power from two 680 megawatt fossil fuel fired power plants including pollution control equipment, material handling equipment and by-product sales / disposal operations. • Developed and implemented a personnel succession plan to deal with high employee turnover due to retirements. Achieved a safe and effective transition of newly hired personnel into key positions through classroom and on the job training which ensured reliable operation of critical equipment while simultaneously reducing the overtime budget by $250k.• Successfully developed and managed the $15M annual Operations Department budget. • Coordinated and prioritized the maintenance of critical equipment to minimize downtime, maximize production and increase reliability. Plant reliability is consistently in top decile for plants of similar design.• Developed and implemented an internal SharePoint site which included operating procedures, job hazard analysis, plant specific training materials and reliability compliance materials to provide employees with a central repository of information for their safety and professional development. • Developed detailed plant startup and shutdown plans to ensure safe and efficient operations during these critical transitions. • Periodically covers for the Plant Manager to ensure leadership continuity.

Led a group of 18 shift personnel in the operation and control of two 680 megawatt fossil fuel fired power plants. Ensured the plant was operated safely, efficiently and reliably. Coordinated all aspects of plant operations and was plant emergency coordinator during emergency events to ensure safety of plant personnel and the public.• Exceeded two million man hours of operation without a lost time accident.• Managed crew and plant operations with zero recordable injuries and zero environmental reportable events during tenure as a Shift Manager.• Coordinated lock-out / tag-out program on shift to ensure that all equipment being turned over for maintenance was properly isolated, de-energized and depressurized for the safety of personnel.• Key member of the team implementing a successful $16M Distributed Control System (DCS) upgrade to the plant. Coordinated system and component operation and testing.

Scheduling / Personnel Management (2000 – 2006)Managed 35 personnel in the planning, coordination, scheduling and execution of training in power plant operation, casualty restoration, material inspection, quality assurance and administrative program management for over 800 training missions. Corporate Training (2000 – 2003)Led a 7-person training team in over 200 training missions in support of power plant certifications onboard 22 marine gas turbine propulsion and electrical generation plants. Provided executive level feedback on shortfalls and assisted with the development and execution of training plans to increase proficiency and achieve certification.Power Plant Operation / Supervision (1983 – 2000)Operated marine gas turbine / diesel propulsion plants, electrical generation equipment, control systems, drive train, waste heat boilers and auxiliary support systems. Led and supervised teams of 6 to 80 people in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment. Position required an in-depth knowledge of equipment interfaces, sound judgment and the ability to make immediate decisions in high stress environments.• Rapidly completed all qualifications and successfully performed as the Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) under war time conditions.• Qualified as Chief Engineer on tug boats as a junior petty officer.Machinery / System Maintenance (1982 – 2000)Maintained and repaired mechanical systems and equipment. Specifically: Diesel engines, gas turbine engines, waste heat boiler systems, 1.5 - 200 ton reciprocating and centrifugal air conditioning / refrigeration systems, chilled water systems, high and low pressure air compressors, pumps, hydraulic systems, winches, conveyors, distillation and water treatment systems, waste water systems, fuel and lubricating oil purification and handling systems, valves and mechanical / pneumatic control systems which included development of weekly, quarterly, annual and overhaul maintenance schedules.
