About Pavan Acharya

As a reporter who has covered topics of both national and local interest, I aim to write and produce stories that will help my audience make better-informed decisions and opinions on issues important to them. As a local news intern for The Dallas Morning News in the summer of 2024, I covered a variety of topics and different beats. Content I reported on included housing policy, crime, education and (in some cases) rats. That summer I also developed deeper relationships with my sources, building trust and writing more in-depth stories in the process. In each of my articles, I worked diligently to ensure that those being impacted by policy were having their stories told as well.As a National Security reporter in Washington D.C., I wrote content on government functions related to defense, veterans and U.S. foreign policy. During my time in D.C., I also covered Congressional and Supreme Court hearings, transmitting information that is of importance to the public. In developing my beat, I felt further affirmed in my belief in the importance of reporting on issues or policy areas that receive little coverage or attention.Through my experiences as an editor and reporter for my school newspaper, The Daily Northwestern, I had the unique opportunity to cover the college campus I considered home. In addition to learning key skills in developing consistent coverage for a daily news cycle, I had the opportunity to build up beats and report on a community I actively engaged with. I could see firsthand the impact my desk's coverage had on the students and staff at Northwestern.I look forward to further developing my skills through new experiences as a journalist, consistently working toward my goals of providing factual and succinct information to audience members in the process.
