InnovationQuarter is a regional development agency, a private organisation, funded by various governmental partners, dedicated to enhancing the economy and employment rates in West Holland. I was part of the 'Zuid-Hollands Investeringsplatform' (ZIP), a platform which is tasked with being the matchmaker between new projects which aim to tackle a societal challenge and the public and private funders who can make these projects reality. We do this by evaluating and strengthening business cases, resolve bottlenecks in the investor ecosystem and by matching the projects with suitable funders.Personally I have helped with the intake of new applicants or interesting projects by evaluating them and to help them improve their Business Plan and Business Case. I have also developed several workshops and evaluation tools to further professionalize and standardize the intake and strengthening phases.

I was assisting dr. Gaston Heimeriks on research concerning Technological Innovation System analyses, network analyses of publication data and visualizations of these networks (scientometrics and innometrics).

As a Student Assistent, I have helped organize events and aiding different courses; the latter consisted of overseeing tutorials and exams, moderating the digital learning environment, checking assignments and guiding students to help them get a better understanding of the course content and the methods that are associated with it. The different courses or events I have aided are listed below.Matching 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 of the bachelor programme Science and Innovation Management:Each student must apply for this Matching-programme before they can apply for a study at Utrecht University. I helped organize the Matching of the bachelor programme Science and Innovation Management (SIM). For the Matching of SIM, students had to read texts and make an assignment at home, and must go to the universiteit for the Matching Day. Here, they will get a lecture, get a tutorial which discusses the assignment and end with a project or test. This way, student have a better overview of what the study entails and can thus make a better decision on which study they apply for. I was in charge of making an interesting program: selecting interesting texts, make a challenging assignment and help with the planning of the rest of the day. There were three Matching days of SIM in 2014.The course 'Onderzoeksvaardigheden 2' (2012-2013 and 2013-2014):This course teaches research statistics and the basic principles of the statistical computer program SPSS to students.The course 'Introductie Technologie en Innovatie' (2013-2014 and 2014-2015):This course teaches the basics of innovation theory to bachelor students, and uses theories by Rogers, Utterback and Christensen.The course 'Onderzoeksvaardigheden 1' (2014-2015):This course teaches the basics of quantitative and qualitative research.The course 'Innovation Policy' (2014-2015):This course teaches the the rationale behind, the methods used and results obtained from government intervention in innovation trajectories.

The Institute for Sustainable Process Technology is a co-operation between industry, universities, and knowledge institutes, which aims at speeding up innovation processes and make them more efficient than they are at present.My task was to organize a good and interesting programme for master students during the European Congress of Chemical Engineering 2013 (www.ecce2013.eu), which is a biennial European congres that was hosted in the Netherlands (in the World Forum in The Hague) for the first time, by organizing workshops, invite alumni or start-up companies that held speeches and by inviting companies to show their projects. The theme of the congress was 'Shaping a Sustainable Future' and will focus on Chemical Engineering, Biotchnology, Process Innovation and Sustainability. Another part of my job was to make sure as many students as possible attended the congress, by creating a network amongst the several study associations across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and by actively promoting through universities and other organisations. I also had some smaller tasks, such as being in charge aqcuiring a band for the jubilee dinner, which was on the last evening of the congress. The 'Student's Day' was received very well and a lot more MSc students were present than was targeted.

Shift Innovatie is a young and enthusiastic company specialized in innovation consultancy, case study research and innovation workshops. With some co-students, I started this company to try and put the theories learned about innovation in our study, into practice. I learned a lot about starting a company with all the problems and bottlenecks that came with it. In September 2012, I quit the company when it was fully functional and we had built a large enough network to have enough work to make a nice profit. Shift Innovatie is still in operation to this day, and keeps making a larger profit each year.

The book 'Innoveren kun je leren' is a Dutch book which gives summaries of several important theories of innovation, such a Disruptive Innovation or User Innovation. The book has three different sections: economical theories, sociological theories and management theories. I have created the lay-out, co-created the cover and have done the senior editing for this book (created the InDesign file, spell check, conent check) for the first print. As a salesman at Mikro-Elektro, which later merged with de Harense Smid, I was a salesman of consumer electronics. As I've worked there for over eight years, at the end I was in charge of the office-section of the store, including buying new inventory, co-deciding on pricing and what to put on display.

NWSV Helix is the study association of the Science and Innovation Management Bachelor and Master studies. The board has a variety of tasks, such as: organizing activities, help improve the quality of the studies, help the integration between students themselves and between studentens and teachers, manage the recreational room where students can take a break and drink some coffee and improve the study association itself by means of new plans and policies.As the treasurer of the twentieth board of the study association, I was in charge of creating a budget for the fiscal year and doing the accounting for it. I was in charge of stock (the purchasing and sales of snacks, drinks, et cetera), I was responsible for the cash flow within the association, including the cash flow of activities and parties, I was in charge of grating subsidies and I had to keep an overview of the expenditures. I have also improved the accountanting of the study association by introducing new guidelines and by including the sales of study books into the accounting program. Aside from my duties as treasurer, I was also highly involved in external relations; doing business acquisition so that companies would sponsor our study association.

The SSU Foundation yearly organizes a study tour abroad for Bachelor and Master students Science & Innovation Management (SIM) of the Utrecht University.In the year I helped organize the study tour, the tour had Boston and New York as destination. Many different companies were visited, such as IBM, Genzyme, Biogen Idec, GT Solar, Verenium and Merck. There were also visits to different universities, such as the MIT and Harvard.
