My PhD focused on developing the Penning trap as a viable platform for quantum computing, quantum simulation and quantum logic spectroscopy. Throughout my PhD, I worked within the group to develop advanced cooling techniques that could be applied to both single ions and larger ion crystal. Achieving this milestone enabled us to demonstrate high fidelity coherent manipulation of ions at the quantum level.
