Thesis Title - Detection of E. coli from food matrices using nucleic acid amplification test and bacteriophages.Description - In this study a bacteriophage specific to E. coli was isolated, purified and titre was determined. It was characterized according to the morphology, multiplicity of infection and host range. The temperature sensitivity was also evaluated. Further it should be characterized by other methods like Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), performing the Efficiency of plating (EOP), analyzing the pH sensitivity and the viability of the phage when stored in low temperatures. Also studies like isolation of phage DNA and genome sequencing would help to understand the phage classification and family. NAAT studies were not performed due to time constraints. Elaborate and comprehensive data will help in the emergence of using bacteriophages as powerful tools for the identification of food contaminants.
