About Pawel Buczkowicz, Phd
In everything I do, I strive to make a tangible, beneficial impact on how medicine and healthcare is practiced. I do this through developing and advocating for technological innovation, collaborating on cutting edge research across the fields of computer science, genetics and oncology, and by helping to optimize clinical workflows through my first-hand knowledge and Lean Six Sigma training. At PhenoTips, I work on software which is used by thousands of doctors, researchers, genetic counselors all over the world aimed at helping them diagnose and study patients with rare diseases and genetic disorders. I look towards a future where every decision about patient-care will be based on the personalized genetics of individuals and families and not on the medical records, paper or electronic, that are siloed in any hospital’s filing cabinet or electronic systems. I want to empower clinicians to provide personalized care to their patients and for researchers to discover breakthroughs in genetics through technologies that make clinical data standardized, usable, sharable and interoperable.I bring a varied breadth of experience in both an industry setting and over nine years of experience in medical research, specifically genetics and oncology. I am knowledgeable in aspects of clinical trials, clinical literature, data analysis, medical statistics as well as corporate finance, marketing and operations management. My contributions to the medical community included the discovery of novel mutations in human cancer and the development of clinical correlates based on which a new World Health Organization classification was implemented for paediatric gliomas (diffuse midline glioma, H3 K27M–mutant), a type of childhood brain cancer. I have published several high-impact first author manuscripts, including a seminal publication in Nature Genetics. For this work I was awarded the prestigious Institute of Cancer Research Publication Prize in November 2014 and the Lap-Chee Tsui Publication Award in December 2014.
Listed skills include Tissue Culture, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Genomics, and 29 others.
