I helped manage the on-time release of IXL’s high school reading curriculum. I set project scope and development milestones, served as project lead for five-person curriculum-design team, and collaborated with engineering, art production, and quality assurance.

I helped research and design online language arts skills that support learners and teachers in the exploration and mastery of grammar, punctuation, reading comprehension, and writing. The individual skills were often humble in their goals: helping learners make predictions about stories or recognize and label a poem's rhyme scheme. But the overall project was ambitious: to reshape the learning and teaching process.

I created content to teach and delight by liaising between our instructional design team and clients to craft solutions that met our clients' unique training needs. I had the good fortune to have spent many years teaching and researching at an amazingly innovative, interdisciplinary university. I was the instructor of record for 19 learner-centered, seminar-style classes and teaching assistant for an additional 8 lecture classes in the following departments or programs: the English Department, the College of Creative Studies, the Department of Theater and Dance, the University of California Washington Center, and the Writing Program.Classes I taught included the following: • Introduction to Academic Writing • Introduction to Literary Studies • Shakespeare and Rhetoric • Early and Late Shakespeare • Shakespeare in Performance • Medieval and Early Modern Literature • 18th Century British Literature • Early American Literature • Science Fiction: First ContactAs recognition of my commitment to teaching, the English Department twice awarded me “Outstanding Achievement as a Teaching Assistant in English” (2005-2006, 2008-2009). Student evaluations of my teaching are available upon request.My research focused on the intersection of gender and authorship in sixteenth-century England, culminating in an article published in Shakespeare Quarterly on authorship and aphorism in Shakespeare's Lucrece. I also co-edited a collection of essays on Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. Along with Shakespeare, I wrote about the following poets in my dissertation: Edmund Spenser, Samuel Daniel, Thomas Churchyard, and George Gascoigne. Bonus points to anyone who caught the Sidney reference in my summary.In addition to teaching and research, I was a co-lead teaching assistant for two years, responsible for mentoring new teaching assistants and running the English Department's new teacher orientation, and I helped coordinate and run our annual, interdisciplinary conference at the Early Modern Center.
