After building a successful career in software development and systems integration, I developed an interest in project management as a mechanism for improving the selection of projects for development and providing better information for decision makers about how resources are allocated to projects, how projects are progressing, and whether continued investment is prudent.I have worked as a project manager, coach to project managers, and project oversight consultant (reviewer) on a variety of projects in the public and private sectors during the past 35 years. I have been teaching project management and risk management for 30 years.I believe the goal of project management is to both help organizations get projects done and support effective organizational decision-making. Working with project managers and sponsoring executives naturally led to conversations about how project ideas are selected for further consideration and inclusion in an organization's portfolio.
