Payton Howell is a Student at Millikin University at HOWELL FARMS. Colleagues describe them as "If there’s one word to describe Payton Howell, it would be DEDICATED. He understands what it takes to get the job done from start to finish and what he doesn’t know, he’ll find the answer. Whether its in real estate or whatever career path he chooses, Payton has a bright future ahead. " and "To whom it may concern, My name is Kyle Meece and I’m the Agronomy Manager for United Prairie LLC based out of Tolono, IL. United Prairie is a fertilizer and chemical company that is an LLC under our cooperative owners consisting of Premier Cooperative elevator, Topflight Grain elevator, CHS, and Danvers Elevator. I’m writing this letter on behalf of Payton Howell and would like to encourage you to strongly consider him for future employment opportunities. Part of my job description here at United Prairie is heading up our intern program every summer during the growing season. We go through a formal interview process during the winter months, and plan to hire at least 6 interns to work with myself and a few local growers in our footprint. A big part of our intern program involves scouting fields season long to not only give our group of interns a better understanding of crop growth and development for corn and soybeans here in Central Illinois, but to also monitor weeds, pests, or other limiting factors that may potentially correlate to yield declines for the growers enrolled within our scouting program. We want to make sure that our scouts are ahead of things, so that proactive decisions can be made to resolve any potential issues rather than making a reactive decision in the end. Another requirement and offering for our interns is to give them an opportunity to get there Part 107 drone license, and then provide access to a drone season long, with a commitment from United Prairie to provide our interns with the drone at the end of the season as a thank you for their time and dedication, and to hopefully help them in future career opportunities. I was fortunate enough to have Payton as one of my interns for the 2021 growing season. Payton came to us with a background in farming as his father and brother worked and managed their family farming operation, and Payton helped out when he could, but he also had other interest he wanted to potentially pursue as a long term career he felt. When it came to daily duties and tasks he had no trouble completing anything that was requested of him. He was very detailed in his scouting reports that were sent directly to our growers, and took active interest in assisting me and wanting to better understand what we were doing and why we were conducting certain research trials. Another item that he excelled at was utilizing the drones that had been provided and working with the rest of the intern team to capture photos, videos, and imagery from a different perspective than most growers were used to seeing. I feel like this type of technology can be used in many fields and career paths, and I believe that he saw some of the same visions as I did. In conclusion Payton was a professional, well rounded young man, and I think he would be a great employee to join your team. Thank you. Sincerely, Kyle Meece Agronomy Manager: CCA & 4R NMS Email: kmeece@unitedprairie.com"
