Welcome! My name is Payton Baker and I am a third year Economics major pursuing a Cosmetic Science minor at Spelman College. A little bit about me: I am from the beautiful city of Chicago, Illinois, I come from a large family of eight, and since childhood, I have had a passion for cosmetics, specifically makeup artistry and natural hair care. As one of six sisters, I believe that the use of cosmetics plays a pivotal role in women’s livelihood and instilling confidence. As an Economics major, I am enthused to merge my developing data analytical skills with my passion for cosmetics by conducting research on the ever-growing consumer insights/data to best support brands within the beauty industry. As a student at a historically Black college, I specifically am passionate about conducting research and data analysis on Black women’s rising entrepreneurial ventures within the cosmetics industry to address how they can be supported in further diversifying the beauty market. As a Beauty Advisor for Ulta Beauty in the heart of Chicago’s downtown, I witnessed first hand the range of beauty concerns from our diverse customer base, further solidifying my desire to address discrepancies within the beauty industry. My experience as a Natural hair model has also provided me with hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience in beauty marketing and campaigns. With that being said, I am exited to be seeking work experience in the Corporate Beauty field at a company committed to growth, equity, and inclusion.
