How do we make technology for people? Not the kind of shiny technology that is a Steve Job’s Apple iPhone reveal… The technology that is the background hum in our buzzing lives. The technology that makes for a seamless experience, either completely unnoticed by the user, or designed with the intention of being absolutely appreciated by them. This kind of answer is about more than the tech itself- it’s about the integration with those humans it serves. It calls for a different kind of engineer to create it- an extroverted engineer that loves making friends with strangers at a local bar and supporting local startups through mentorship and creating engagement with their MBA peers and fostering local engagement through volunteer work. An engineer who cares about how the solutions they are designing and providing affect the world around them. This is who I am, and who I continue to aspire to be, as a leader in Internet of Things (IoT), connecting our communities digitally and socially. And for those still reading, a little more about me!I’ve always had a passion for intertwining technology and people to provide accessibility and ease. I gained a degree in Engineering Management from Missouri University of Science and Technology for this exact purpose- bridging the gap between the textbook science and the real world to provide solutions for the people. I moved to Arkansas from Atlanta in 2020 after applying to and being selected for the Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Life Works Here Talent Incentive- joining Engineers, Chefs, Musicians, and Artists in moving across the country to this midwest oasis! Upon arrival I got settled into the culture immediately, taking a role with Walmart as a leader in their small but mighty Internet of Things team! I continue to interact with the Incentive members, now called “The NWA Starters” to create a network that helps us all support one another’s ventures, and lift up our community. This past August, I started my Executive MBA through the Walton School of Business in Fayetteville to further my understanding of the needs of my neighborhood. I am currently serving as a volunteer mentor to local startups, providing them guidance and direction, and acting as a sounding board for their creative ideas, and learn from them each meeting! I love learning about all the amazing work being done in NWA, and am crazy for coffee.
