I am a Full Professor (Catedrático) with UPC BarcelonaTech and Scientific Director at the Barcelona Neural Networking Center (BNN). Between 2013-2018, I was co-founder and chairman at Talaia Networks, an AI-based cybersecurity startup. The company was acquired by Auvik Networks in 2018. For this activity I received research valorization awards from both the Catalan Government and UPC, including the Fiber Entrepreneurs award to the best entrepreneur of the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) in 2015. Recently, I received the prestigious ICREA Academia Award (2023-2028). Previously, I was also a visiting researcher at Endace (New Zealand), Intel Research Cambridge (UK) and Intel Labs Berkeley (USA). My recent research activity has focused on the development of novel AI-based methods for network management, optimization, monitoring and cybersecurity. These methods have been integrated in several open-source and commercial products, such as Network Polygraph, Auvik Traffic Insights, Intel CoMo and SMARTxAC. In particular, SMARTxAC has been used for 15+ years to monitor the Catalan Research and Education Network (Anella Científica) and, more recently, its Spanish counterpart (RedIRIS). My research in this area also resulted in 100+ scientific publications, many of them in high-impact venues (e.g., IEEE Infocom, ACM CoNEXT, IEEE Network, IEEE ComMag, IEEE JSAC, IEEE ToN, Proc. of IEEE). My group and I are also considered pioneers in the application of Graph Neural Networks (GNN) in the area of computer networks.As a recognized expert in this area, I served in the TPC of 30+ conferences and in the Steering Committee of the Network Traffic Measurement and Analysis Conference (which I chaired in 2015). In the last 5 years, I have been local organizer of ACM CoNEXT 2020 and general co-chair of three ACM CoNEXT workshops (GNNet 2022 and 2023, and BigDAMA 2019). I currently teach Operating Systems (SO), Computer Networks (XC) and Entrepreneurship Projects (PAE) at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB). I also coordinate the Network Traffic Monitoring and Analysis (TMA) subject at the UPC Master's Degree in Cybersecurity.I received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from UPC BarcelonaTech in 2003 and 2008, respectively.
