So. Much. Data. Oil and Gas operations produce volumes of data: regulatory filings, production volumes, drilling specs. We built a solution to bring structure to this world of ambiguity, allowing our clients to find opportunities lurking just outside of plain sight.Our engineering team instrumented automated ETL processes (using Scala, for performance reasons) to consume regulatory filings in several US states, normalize and transform them, creating elegant data visualizations that our clients loved. Lots of success stories - finding new opportunities for land acquisition; assigning values to operations for their own purposes.

A major source of revenue for airlines is the "other" bookings you can make along with your ticket: booking a car, a hotel, a tour. iSeatz created a customizable white-labeled web solution for major players in the travel space. Our platform connected our client's website with offerings from other 3rd party providers, enabling the booking of those products with a look and feel matching our clients detailed brand specifications.To make this happen, we need to grow. And grow fast. Our development team needed to grow by 200% in a few short months in order to meet the development needs of one of our client (won't name them, but they are a major player in booking space. I promise - you know them....) Living in a smaller tech hub, this pushed all of us to get creative in rapid recruiting, hiring, evaluating, preserving culture, growing culture.

Theater Ticketing. I've long had a passion for local theater (I never had courage to get on stage back in the day, but I LOVED the support roles - lighting, sound, set design). Along with 2 other theater geeks, we started a company to build an online ticketing platform for community theaters, high schools and others that couldn't afford the complexity of available online systems.Built a business model that ensured the company could be profitable without putting a burden on these theaters who operate on a shoe-string budget.Built a web solution on top of this "new-fangled" service called "Amazon Web Services" (long before they had web console, and ONLY had CLI access). Learned a lot about designing and building for reliability! Why? Theater performances happen weekend evenings - the same time all of us have our plans for our own entertainment. None of us want to interrupt our own dinner plans because a server is down preventing a theater for processing ticket sales at 7pm on a Friday night! To prevent that, we needed to make sure OUR stuff stayed operational.
