ST JOSEPH’S HEALTH CENTRE, 2005- 2010Manager, Labour RelationsReported to the Chief, People, Learning and Leadership Executive. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of labour management relations for 2000 unionized employees. Managed one Labour Relations Coordinator and a budget of approximately $180,000. Provided expert advice and consultation to management across the organization on strategic and operational issues, including: contract interpretation, relevant legislation, performance management, policies, discipline, terminations, and terms of employment, ensuring efficient, fair and equitable treatment of staff. Chief spokesperson that led and negotiated approximately 7 local and stand-alone collective agreements (SEIUlocal2.on, ONA and CUPE Service/Clerical). Formulated and administered, the organization’s labour relations policies and practices, in liaison with senior management, ensuring uniform and equitable application. Conducted investigations regarding complaints and labour relations issues (Ontario Human Rights Complaints, Code of Conduct, Practice Issues, etc.). Identified needs, designed training material and facilitating educational sessions relating to contract interpretation, grievance process, discipline, policies and general human resources management.  Promoted ongoing and effective relationships between management, employees and collective bargaining representatives. Represented the hospital to Union Representatives, appropriate Government Officials, Legal Counsel and Hospital Industry Organizations. As a member of the Management Team contributed to the Human Resources Strategic Plan. Member of the Nursing Professional Development Committee ensuring that nurses were engaged in maintaining and improving their practice.

TORONTO EAST GENERAL HOSPITAL, 2002- 2005Manager, Labour and Employee RelationsReported to the Director, Human Resources & Organizational Wellness. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of labour-management and employee relations for 1900 unionized and 500 non-union employees. Led and negotiated the labour and employee relation’s activities for local and stand-alone collective agreements which included 8 collective agreements. (SEIU, ONA, OPSEU and CEP) Provided strategic and operational advice to management on recruitment, managing internal staffing, succession planning and job design in order to optimize the use of human resources and equitable application of collective agreements.  Designed training material and facilitating one day sessions related to contract interpretation, grievance process, discipline, attendance awareness, policies and general human resources management, which provided Management staff with detailed guidance and understanding of their expectations  Liaised with the hospital to Union Representatives, appropriate Government Officials, Legal Counsel and Hospital Industry Organizations.

NITROCHEM CORP., 2001- 2002Manager, Human Resources (Head Office) A privately owned Canadian manufacturer of chemicals and explosives. Reported to the VP, Finance & Administration. Responsible for all human resources activities including: recruitment, benefits, pension, payroll, labour and employee relations, organizational development and health & safety for five locations.(Three (3) US sites and two (2) Canadian sites, approximately 250 employees). Managed a staff of one Payroll & Benefits Administrator, one Receptionist and three on site HR Administrators.  Negotiated company benefits for all locations, continually sourcing potential cost savings and administered three pension plans (401k, Define Benefit, Defined Contribution). Developed long-term strategy and forecasts of an aging work force. Completed annual wage and benefit budgets for four sites, in excess of $10 million. Provided expert advice and consultation to all levels of Management on human resources policies and procedures. Negotiated a long-term agreement with the Communication, Energy and Paperwork Union which avoided company bankruptcy and allowed company to be sold.  Managed and administered three collective agreements (grievances, arbitration, terminations) with the CEP, PACE, and United Steelworkers of America.  Successfully negotiated and managed a shutdown agreement, avoiding grievances and potential costly litigation at several operating units.
